Field trips are designed to extend and enhance the curriculum. One of the benefits of a private independent school is the ability to engage in hand-on learning outside of the classroom. To that end, elementary classroom teachers usually plan three to five field trips each year. Upper School teachers usually plan several field trips, including a retreat. All students are expected to attend all field trips.
Field Trip Attire
Providence Academy field trip shirts are required for all students in K-5 and are worn on most field trips. The field trip shirt is offered by Lands’ End and is the gold Super T with the Providence Academy logo. Certain field trips (to the theatre or more formal events) will require students to wear their special event uniform. Upper School teachers will inform students of the attire for each individual trip.
Field Trip Transportation
In many cases, transportation will be by chartered bus. On occasion we will ask for parent drivers. The following guidelines are in place regarding transportation to and from field trips:
All students under the age of eight (8) must be properly secured in an approved child safety seat if traveling in parent vehicles.
Parent drivers may not bring other children on the field trips, and must adhere to the schedule and itinerary set by the classroom teacher. Parents who are driving for field trips are expected to deliver students to the destination and back to school, but are not permitted to make additional stops or side-trips.
Parent drivers must have all forms on file in the office before leaving for a field trip.
Field Trip DriversField Trip Drivers are required to have the following forms on file in the school office in order to be eligible to drive to or from a school-sponsored event:
- Driver Certification Form
- Copy of Driver’s License
- Proof of Insurance
- DMV Driving Record, showing no more than one moving violation in the past 3 years, on file in the school office.
